Hlinka Gretzky Cup

Centre

Had the most eye-opening performance of any Canadian player. Coming into the tournament, I thought he’d be a good 4C for them. He blew past expectations, scoring 6 goals in 5 games and consistently performing as one of Canada’s best forwards. Plays an all-round game– wins faceoffs, comes back defensively, steals pucks, disrupts opponents, forechecks strongly and engages physically frequently, Compete level is exceptional– always battles hard, finishes checks, plays bigger than he is, drives the net, and plays in the toughest areas of the ice. Average skater but has a strong lower body that makes him difficult to push around. Puck control is a key strength– keeps it in tight and uses his body as a shield. He is able to maintain control in tight quarters, which eases the process of working the puck into high danger areas. Has a complete willingness to bring the puck to the inside of the ice or right to the net. Positionally, he loves the front of the net– he drives there frequently and can often be seen fighting for space in front. Scored quite a few goals in this fashion throughout the tournament. Also showed he has an above average shot. Scored big goals for Canada, was one of the standouts every single game, and played an all-around game. Quickly becoming one of my favourite prospects for 2023. Will have a huge breakout season with Sherbrooke with an increased role and TOI. Definite first rounder. Won’t be overly high due to a lack of sufficient size or elite skating, but teams will covet him.
