Playing down the lineup in a checking role, he found a way to be a positive contributor to Canada’s success. Given that I was not expecting him to make the team in the first place, he very much impressed me in this tournament and improved as the tournament wore on. His penalty-killing work, often with Colby Barlow, was outstanding. He can be a pain to play against with his tenacity, high energy, and quickness. He excelled at disrupting opponents all tournament long, and even turned that into some offense. Offensively, he is crafty at creating scoring opportunities and finished the tournament with 2G/2A in 5 GP. These often came as the result of steals, broken plays, or after a heavy forecheck. While he is quick, he doesn’t necessarily have any elite skill or skating and it is his energy and tenacity that make him a valuable player. Should be in for an offensive breakout in London under Dale Hunter this season. I will be looking to see if he can create a more well-rounded offensive game instead of relying on chances off of steals, broken plays and a heavy forecheck.
